LIMA - THE CITY OF KINGS |
|
|
Lima, the city of Kings and viceroys , was since ever a luck of culture oasis and vanity in the American Indians. Baroque and renaissance temples, residences and palaces, universities, archbishoprics and an intense cultural activity characterized this city since the dawns of the XVII century, when it just counted with 25 thousand habitants. On 18 January of 1535, the conqueror Francisco Pizarro founded the city of Lima on the ancient valley of the Rimac river. In less than seven decades, Lima concentrated the power and the richness of all commercial and cultural activities of the Viceroyship : It was converted in the most important city of America. Almost from its five away centuries since the Spaniard foundation, Lima has been synonymous of mongrelism , which surprises laics and knowers which constitutes one of its biggest values. Examples of this are abundant in its innovating culinary art, its monumental architecture, its knavish and clever people, excellent museums and art galleries, archaeological and natural attractions, etc.
